Holiday Skincare Survival Guide
We’ve all been there. Beauty offenders—too little sleep, too much holiday cheer, and family stress around the holidays—can end up spoiling your complexion. With that in mind, we’ve compiled our research-substantiated remedies and staffer favorites to help you ward off common holiday-related skin snafus. Use this guide for a beautiful radiant complexion all season long!
An excess of salty snacks, sugar-laden treats, and celebratory libations (Hello, eggnog!) around the holidays can lead to water retention and increased puffiness around the eyes.
The quick fix: A gentle fingertip massage around the eye area with a soothing (non-fragrant) facial oil when you get up can help relieve this kind of swelling. Also, try sleeping with your head slightly elevated to reduce fluid retention in the eye area.
Dull, dehydrated, tired-looking skin is a hallmark of being sleep deprived—something many of us experience after many a late night out around the holidays (and we all know that one party too many is almost inevitable).
The overnight remedy: Try a “sleeping mask” with skin-brightening ingredients like bearberry extract, arbutin, vitamin C, and niacinamide for glowing, refreshed skin by morning. Leaving the mask on overnight allows for more saturated hydration, and gives the superstar ingredients more time to work their magic!
So many factors contribute to breakouts: Added stress (lots of research about this), gluten-loaded sweets, and an increase in the amount of foundation you wear or the type of makeup you wear, or being too tired to wash your makeup off after a late night out. Or, for some of us, it can simply be not adhering to our normal skincare routine while we’re traveling for the holidays.
The multi-tasking resolution: Unclog pores and diminish breakouts now with one of our must-have salicylic acid exfoliants, and keep using it all year round for smoother, clearer, and fresher-looking skin, day in and day out. When you’ve been particularly neglectful, our RESIST BHA 9 can rescue you from even the worst skincare transgressions.
Dryness from Head to Toe
The combination of frigid and dry outdoor weather and the dry, hot air circulating in our homes and cars this time of year can suck the moisture right out of your skin.
The problem solver Step 1: Help everyone in your household have softer, more hydrated skin by using a humidifier in the home to add moisture to the air. Step 2: From the neck down, start and end each day with a rich body butter; from the neck up, use a skin-replenishing facial moisturizer to seal in the hydration and restore skin’s vital nourishing components. Voilá, supple, radiant, silky smooth skin!
For some of us, the holiday weather and the changes in our normal routine can lead to temperamental, reddened skin. Don’t let that put a damper on your festive spirit….
The skin-calming solution: Use a serum brimming with skin-replenishing ingredients and antioxidant-enriched plant extracts to soothe temperamental skin. This peaceful combination allows skin to renew and rejuvenate while calming redness.
